Three Clay County Teams Advance in Semi-Finals

Oakleaf, Ridgeview, and St. Johns Country Day have all advanced to the regional finals this week.

BASKETBALL

Second-round playoff preview

High-scoring Oakleaf put a trio of scorers into the 20-point column last week with Trista Brown, Fantasia James, and Kaylah Turner, and they can score from anywhere! Crestview will challenge the Knights on the interior when they get the basketball to Elesi Simmons. The winner plays Friday against Land O'Lakes or Gainesville.

REGION 1-5A Ridgeview (21-7) at Fort Walton Beach (19-6) For Ridgeview, every starter is capable of a big game. Last time it was Nacoya Blocton with 20, while on another day it might be Nia Blocton or Paetyn Miller. The Vikings, winners of their last seven, get nearly 20 points per game from senior guard Shameir Quimby, a transfer from Canton in eastern Texas. Daytona Beach Mainland or Pensacola Pine Forest awaits the winner.

REGION 1-2A

Quincy Munroe (13-9) at St. Johns Country Day (17-5)

With her 36.9-point regular season average, senior Taliah Scott continues to spark the Spartans, aiming for their first third-round playoff visit since 1987. The defensively-solid Bobcats counter with the height of 6-1 Mya McCullar, who averages close to a double-double.
